Description |

The main purpose of tug boats is to pull or push another larger boat. You will most often find tug boats in harbours as larger ships may have a difficult time navigating these smaller areas. Tug boats work exceptionally well at turning ships in areas that are much smaller than the ship could turn in itself. Tug boats can also be used to tow a large ship out to deeper waters or to help these ships navigate canals and rivers. It is not uncommon for a tug boats to be equiped with engines that can produce upwards of 3000 horsepower. Tug boats that are found out in deeper water have been known to contain engines that produce nearly 25,000 horsepower. |
